With great athletes in mind, as well as other guests keen to ride during their stays, Pousadas de Portugal have become bike-friendly. Not only is this alternative and sustainable form of transport increasingly popular, it’s also becoming more practical, with a greater number of support features and facilities available.
Managed by the Pestana Group, there are already 15 Pousadas de Portugal with secure bike parking outside and a cleaning service. Many have different cycling routes starting from each hotel, so guests know what to expect for any of the paths available.
In the centro region and north of the country, choose between Pousada Viana do Castelo, Pousada Mosteiro Guimarães, Pousada Ria Aveiro, Pousada Viseu, Pousada Caniçada-Gerês and Pousada Serra da Estrela. Southwards, there are many pousadas in the Alentejo with these types services – Pousada Convento Vila Viçosa, Pousada Convento Arraiolos, Pousada Castelo Estremoz, Pousada Castelo Alcácer do Sal and Pousada Convento Beja – not forgetting Pousada Sagres, located in western Algarve. In the Azores, there’s Pousada Forte Horta, on the island of Faial, which is great to explore by bike.
