Sleeping in a hotel room and waking up in an art gallery. At the Pestana São Paulo, this is reality. The hotel is a meeting point between creativity and hospitality that invites you to a new artistic experience.
The project was created with a clear aim: to give Brazilian art greater visibility, while building bridges between guests and the country’s creative expression. Some parts of the Pestana São Paulo have acquired their own identity, with artworks that speak of culture, Brazilian roots and sustainability.
At the entrance to this hotel in São Paulo Center, Davi Rezende’s installation is somewhat surprising. Made from reused materials, the work focusses on sustainability and the power of upcycling. On the 6th floor, we find a tribute to the Portuguese origins of the Pestana Hotel Group, with a collection of photographs, poems and a wall adorned with ceramic sardines. This piece was created by Mafê Stacchini and inspires a contemplative atmosphere.
On the 7th floor, graffiti is in the spotlight. The work of Tico Canato brings the vibrant energy of the city’s streets via striking colours and bold strokes, which can be found in the different corridors and rooms. One floor above, ‘Andar com Fé e Axé’ pays tribute to Bahia with art by Elano Passos. Iconic elements, such as the Farol da Barra lighthouse, capoeira (Brazilian martial art) and Bonfim ribbons are everywhere, not forgetting the intervention in one of the rooms by artist Rogério Silva, which is dedicated to Irmã Dulce, the first Brazilian saint.
On the 9th floor, there are two different options: Nah Pinheiro explores elements of nature in rooms inspired by water and earth, while the Alma Salgada duo, which is made up of Camila Geoffroy and Japia, presents an immersive work with vibrant colours and the flora and fauna of Rio de Janeiro. Macaws, toucans, ocelots and capybaras coexist with the city’s iconic landmarks, such as Christ the Redeemer and the Sugarloaf Mountain cable car. Combining street art with pop art, the artists use mixed techniques, ranging from spray paint to embroidery, creating bold and engaging aesthetics.
The sum of all parts forms a whole, making the Pestana São Paulo much more than accommodation. This spot has become a celebration of Brazilian art, as well as a place for those who want to sleep inspired and wake up feeling creative.
