Located at the Pestana Palácio do Freixo, the Palatium restaurant preserves the building’s aristocratic aura via the finest northern produce and dishes.

Staying at the Pestana Palácio do Freixo makes guests feel a little like the Viscount of Freixo himself, who in the 19th century owned the building that now houses the Pestana Palácio do Freixo – Porto and the Palatium restaurant, which pays tribute to the northern region’s gastronomy and produce. The restored frescoes in the dining room just add to the sophisticated setting for a special meal worthy of the aristocracy.

The cuisine of this restaurant in Porto emphasises the northern terroir. Here the region’s produce is used in dishes that highlight their flavour while combining them with international dishes: for example,  ceviches with Portuguese fish or carpaccios made with meats from northern Portugal, highlighting the characteristics of these foods in a refreshing way.

An elegant and historic room, where restored frescoes create the perfect setting for a unique dining experience.

The menu is peppered with references to seafood from the coast, maronesas and arouquesas veal from the Minho region and fish from these cold Atlantic seas. Dishes such as braised octopus with sautéed cabbage, veal medallions and Porto-style tripe offer both traditional flavours and elegance.

The culinary experience at Palatium also involves a personalised wine pairing, with a specific wine for each dish. The vinho verde and Douro regions are particularly good partners, offering each meal a distinctly northern flavour.

Considering that the restaurant is in Porto, on the banks of the River Douro, pairing desserts with the best port wines is a must. Palatium is proof that dinner can be a journey through space and time.
