The Alvor Praia Gardens designed by Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles are just one example of the Pestana Hotel Group requesting the services of Portugal’s greatest landscape architect.
Nestling at the foot of the Pestana Alvor Praia hotel, with a stunning view of Três Irmãos beach, the gardens designed by Portugal’s most important landscape architect, Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, stretch out before you. Designed in the late 1960s, they were Modernist in the sense of being ecological and functional in nature. For Telles, the site was a canvas, the plants the colour and light the element that brought everything together, creating an oasis of endemic vegetation interspersed with exotic species.
Now considered national heritage, these gardens are just one of many examples of Ribeiro Telles’ work being commissioned by the Pestana Hotel Group, having left his mark on various pousadas such as Guimarães Monastery, Alvito Castle and the São Francisco Convent in Beja.
