One destination is for the beach, art and a vibrant lifestyle, while the other offers fantasy, theme parks and endless magic; truth be told, the short distance between the two cities is the perfect bridge to make any getaway a complete trip in the state of Florida.
One itinerary, two worlds
The link between Miami and Orlando is straightforward and practical: around 380 kilometres separate the two cities, a trip that takes a little more than three hours on Florida’s Turnpike. The relatively short distance makes it possible to organise an itinerary that combines relaxing days by the sea with days wholly devoted to fun at various theme parks. The end result is a getaway that mixes sun, culture, shopping, good food and the adrenaline of the planet’s most famous attractions.
Miami: beaches, art and lively evenings
Arriving in Miami is like stumbling upon a photo-shoot for a cool magazine. South Beach is probably the best-known part of town, with its golden sands, blue sea and iconic Ocean, which is flanked by Art Deco buildings. Being based at a 4-star hotel in South Beach, in the very heart of Miami Beach, is the most practical way to experience the city, with everything nearby.
In the morning, the day can start with a walk, run or even a bike ride along the promenade. In addition to dips in the Atlantic, there’s always time for observing the relaxed and multicultural atmosphere that made the city famous. Away from the beach, why not visit Wynwood, a neighbourhood that has reinvented itself as the heart of urban art, being recognised as a veritable outdoor museum, with murals by artists from all over the world.
Next, Little Havana. The streets are filled with the sound of Latin music, cigar stalls and the unmistakable aroma of Cuban coffee. It’s the ideal spot for lunch with authentic flavours before returning to South Beach. Later, what better than relaxing in the hotel pool and enjoying cocktails during happy hour, preparing for an evening of fun and frolics in Miami.
When the sun sets, Lincoln Road becomes a meeting point: a pedestrian avenue full of shops, galleries and restaurants, where locals and visitors from all over the world mix. Dine al fresco and dance until the early hours, making sure you finish the day in great style, soaking up the Miami vibe at the same time.
Orlando: theme parks, fun and rest
From Miami, next is Orlando, a city that oozes entertainment, with whole days spent in theme parks. Staying at a hotel with a pool near Disney theme parks makes things easier – mere minutes from the fun and with the advantage of being able to relax to the max between the different adventures.
It’s almost compulsory to start the Orlando itinerary at the Magic Kingdom, where we find Cinderella’s castle, the universal symbol of fantasy. That said, the park offers more than just parades and fireworks, it also touches upon many stories that shaped generations. Next, Epcot represents a trip around the world and into the future, with various pavilions from different countries, thematic gastronomy and experiences connected to innovation.
Another must see is SeaWorld, one of the world’s largest marine animal rescue organisations in the world. Here, visitors can see penguins, turtles, seals, dolphins, and even killer whales at close quarters.
At Hollywood Studios, cinema and the world of Star Wars come to life, while visitors at Animal Kingdom can immerse themselves in nature and adventure, with simulated safaris, as well as areas focussed on the universe of Avatar. Those with extra energy can try the Disney water parks, as well as explore the world of Harry Potter, which is located in the Universal parks, also in Orlando.
In the evening, Disney Springs is a great choice for dinner, go shopping or take in a show. Theme restaurants, exclusive stores and outdoor concerts create a laidback atmosphere, which is ideal after a day of intense fun. Returning to the hotel, a pool awaits guests, providing the rest and relaxation necessary to prepare mind and body for another unforgettable day.
