Every great journey begins with a small step. Well, here we start with an hour\u2019s ferry crossing that takes us from Southern Europe to North Africa, from Tarifa to Tangier. The latter marks the beginning of a tour that takes in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city, and Marrakech, a magical destination in the middle of the desert.<\/span><\/p>\n

First stop: Tangier<\/b><\/h2>\n

The first recommendation is a leisurely visit to the medina, which is the historic centre. Those inclined to exploring will find artisanal shops with a wide range of genuine leather, wood and silver items, not to mention items of footwear, clothing, and decoration. After the markets, there\u2019s the chance to see a little of Tangier’s Portuguese heritage, such as the old fortress and churches, especially the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where do you start? Well, the best place is probably the Jemaa el-Fna, which is not only one of the most famous squares in Morocco, but in the whole of Africa. Here we find a multitude of traditional shops and undoubtedly the best place to check into the city. It\u2019s a veritable carousel for the senses, with colours that captivate the eye, aromas that charm the soul and flavours that stimulate the palate.<\/span><\/p>\n

That said, there’s much more to Marrakech: from the exotic souks to its unbelievable rooftops, from the Menara or Majorelle gardens to the city gates and walls, not to mention the palaces and riads (traditional Moroccan mansions).<\/span><\/p>\n
