Hosted every spring, and lasting for weeks, this event takes place after Easter, usually between April and May. For many, this is the best time of year to visit Madeira.
Undoubtedly a tourist highlight on the island, this is just another of the many reasons to visit the Pearl of the Atlantic. This long-standing Flower Festival celebrates the return of sunnier days and the chance to see Madeira in bloom, throughout the island, from the interior to the coast.
For weeks, Madeira’s streets, squares and buildings are decorated with enormous and varied floral arrangements. There are events and shows in the island’s main parishes, guaranteeing plenty of colour and music. Most festivities are found in Funchal, where some of the finest hotels in Madeira are located, such as the Pestana Casino Park and Pestana Carlton which both boast 5-stars and a city address. Staying in one of these strategic spots means experiencing the Flower Festival in complete comfort, just a few minutes’ walk from your hotel.

With florid floats and over a thousand participants dressed to the nines, including local dancers and musicians, this is the festival’s main event.
Wall of Hope

Flowery carpets
Many of the island’s streets are decorated by the residents themselves, who create veritable carpets with impressive patterns.
Classic Car Revival
For three days, the Madeira Classic Car Club event takes you back in time, as the island’s finest and most elegant classic cars go for a spin.
Madeira Flower Classic Auto Parade
Long in the tooth but still roadworthy, follow 150-plus classic cars as they parade along the main avenues.
Music
Associated with the Flower Festival but dotted around the island, there are free concerts at some of the region’s symbolic venues.
