Berlin is always a great choice for a city break, but it’s going to have a particularly special feel during this year's European Championship.
Although the German capital has always had its own unique energy, just imagine what it will be like during Euro 2024. Inside or outside the stadium, the city will be buzzing throughout the competition.
This major sporting event will last a month and a day, beginning on 14th June in Munich and finishing on 14th July at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, just eight kilometres from the Pestana Berlin Tiergarten. Of the 24 national teams taking part, it’s anyone’s guess who will make the final. One thing is sure, whoever gets there, the stadium will be packed with 70,000 fans.
Euro 2024 will host over 50 matches, all of which will be played in Germany. On every corner of Berlin, football devotees will be watching the matches in the city’s cafés, restaurants and bars. When you’re there, try some of the more traditional dishes, such as currywurst and schnitzel, not to mention the many other international culinary options found in the city.
By all means soak up the football fever, but don’t forget to spend some time exploring the place. Wander around Berlin’s most alternative neighbourhoods, like Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, and take in the city’s most popular landmarks, such as the impressive Berlin Cathedral and the symbolic Brandenburg Gate, which is a mere three kilometres from your hotel in Berlin.
For a better understanding of the country’s history and culture, the German Historical Museum and Natural History Museum are well worth seeing. Another point of interest is the East Side Gallery, a remnant of the Berlin Wall that has since been transformed into an open-air art gallery.
To ensure you don’t miss any of the action, check the days and times of the matches, as well as where you can watch the event. In addition to the usual places to watch football, you can enjoy the good weather and watch everything outdoors, in the city’s squares and gardens, which will be temporarily set up during Euro 2024.
